HAWTHORNE - Former NFL safety Robert L. Johnson returned to his alma mater today.
Johnson, a native of South Los Angeles, ran track for LASC in his first year and played football his second year alongside his brother.
He earned All-American honorable mention as a defensive back in 2006.
Despite not receiving much interest from D-1 programs, he impressed an assistant coach from the University of Utah during the last game of the season and received an offer to visit the campus.
Johnson attended The University of Utah from 2007 to 2009. The Utes went undefeated in 2008 and beat Alabama 31-17 in the 2009 Sugar Bowl, a game in which Johnson had 2 interceptions.
While at Utah, Johnson stated that he achieved what he believes is his greatest accomplishment, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology AND Criminology.
Johnson was drafted in the fifth-round by the Tennessee Titans in 2010 and played for them through the 2012 season.
He now works for the University of Utah as a Career Success Coach, helping first and second-year students develop their careers goals while providing mentorship and guidance.
Johnson spent nearly three hours talking to LASC's current football players, sharing his experiences as an athlete in college and in the pros. Johnson emphasized how he was in their shoes not too long ago, and encouraged the Cougars to prioritize their schoolwork.
Thank you Robert and Go Cougars!
