LASC's Brandon Fredrick Named South Coast-South Division MVP
Brandon Fredrick has been named South Coast-South Division MVP. The guard led the conference in scoring averaging 25.7 points a game, three pointers with 133 and steals with 2.5 a game.
Los Angeles Southwest College's men's basketball star Brandon Fredrick has been named the 2021-22 South Coast-South Division Most Valuable Player.
The 5-foot-10 guard from St. Louis, Mo., led the conference in scoring by averaging 25.7 points a game, the next closest player averaged 16.6. He also led the conference in total three pointers with 133 and steals per game with 2.5. The sophomore was a complete player all season as he grabbed 4.4 rebounds and passed for 3.2 assists a game while shooting with 78.3 accuracy from the line.
His stellar play was recognized throughout California as he led the entire state with the most points scored during the 2021-22 season with 719 and finished the season second in the state in points per game. His 249 field goals made was also second in the state.
Fredrick, whose play helped the Cougars average more than 93 points a game as a team, led the state in total three-pointers made with 133, as the next closest player had 90. He hit 44.2 percent of his shots from three-point range.
This was the second notable honor of the year for Fredrick, who was recognized by the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) as one of two State Athletes of the Month for January 2022. In January, Fredrick averaged 32.2 points per game in six contests, leading the Cougars to four victories. He had back-to-back 40-point plus efforts, scoring 42 points in a 100-93 win over Long Beach City College and then pouring in 45 points as LASC defeated L.A. Trade-Tech 125-110. His shooting numbers in the month were an outstanding 55 percent from the field, 48 percent from 3-point land including 31 total treys, and 82.5 percent from the free throw line. He was the first CCCSIA Athlete of the Month ever from LASC.
Fredrick stellar play helped the Cougars' men's basketball team capture a share of the 2021-22 South Coast-South Division title as LASC, Cerritos College and Long Beach City College all finished the regular season with a 7-3 record in division play.
